Jul 5, 2009 YO! Where ya been, Merrick?

So I have a new obsession, as those of you who know me in-world may have surmised. I have become totally enamored of my Sculpt Studio and everything having to do with sculpting and sculpted prims. Sure, you can make most things in SL out of the default basic prims and they look fine ... even great, when constructed by someone with a little talent and imagination. But sculpted prims allow you so much more freedom to make things as realistic as your skills and inspiration will allow. I've been learning SO much about working with sculpties just from playing around with my Sculpt Studio, and talking with and listening to builders and sculptors in-world who have been at this a LOT longer then me! =D Thank you to everyone that I've met that have offered advice, opinions and encouragement ... I'm really surprised at the reactions that I've gotten so far about the things I'm making - surprised ... but really happy!

Wanna see what I've been up to?
(Please keep in mind ... I suck at pictures. =P)

My friend Noelyci created a Lego block out of normal prims - 9 prims total - and I remembered how much I LOVED my Legos when I was a kid. I decided to try and make one sculpty-style ... came out pretty good, I think. Maybe I'll try and make one of each style of block ... =/
Prim total: 1 each.

And then my friend Laleeta sent out a toilet as a joke to the Ch'Know group ... don't remember the prim count, but it was up there ... and again, I thought: "Hmmm ... wonder if I can make that outta a sculpty?" =/
[EDITOR'S NOTE: Seems there's a trend to my sculpting ... is it that I see things that other folks have made, and decide to try and recreate them? Have I no original thought?? No creativity?? No originality?? Hmmmm ... NAHHHH! I'm just learnin' and practicin' my chops ... LOL!]
Prim total: 2 prims (1 for bowl & tank and 1 for upper/lower seat)

This has gotta be the one I'm happiest with so far, though ... I've been going to the Sculpt Studio basic classes at the Dreams Classroom (Sundays, 12p SLT) and one of our assignments was to recreate a 5-prim table out of one sculpted prim. I got a little creative and went with a semi-Queen-Anne-style with the curvy legs. I liked it so much that I decided to make a chair to go with it. =) LOL ... my friends seem to like them - a number of them have even pictured them on their blogs and incorporated them into their home decor. =D I gotta tell ya ... I am SO HONORED. Seriously, knowing that someone likes something that I MADE enough to actually USE IT?? Wow.
Prim total: Table (1-prim), Chair (2-prims, frame and cushion)

Well, I think I'm getting a little better ... but I've got a LOOOOONG way to go. What do you think? Shows promise? Or should I just stick to being a goofball?

o-O

Jul 4, 2009 BAWK!!!

For all you folks all ga-ga over those freakin' SL chickens ... LOL

By the way ... my next sculpty project???

Rotisserie.

(You've been warned.)

Jun 23, 2009 Just a quickie ... (get ur mind outta the gutter!)

Well, I seemed to have dropped the ball on the BBBC '09 and missed the all-important last day of posting ... LOL! Oh well, I had fun ... hope you did too. I found a LOT more interesting blogs out there to check out, which (when it comes right down to it) is really the whole point of the BBBC. =D

In other news, I finally decided to stop discriminating against you readers that use Internet Explorer and have changed the blog theme to one that isn't totally borked in IE. =D It's just a simple layout, but I like it ... and it's also a nice format in case I might decide to - oh, I dunno - open a store or somethin'?? Heh, mebbe in the future ... still have a LOT more skill-buildin' to do!

So whaddya think? Like the new look?

O_O

Jun 19, 2009 BBBC '09, Day 5: Blogger's Choice

YAY! I'm all caught up & ready for tomorrow ... er, later today!

So the BBBC '09 topic for Thursday (if you didn't know already) was this:

Blogger's choice.

Ummmmm .... okay. I choooooooose ...

THIS ONE!

... well ... she's a blogger now ...
... and she's my choice ...
... hey, made sense to me. =D

Y'all should give her a visit ... she just started blogging on Sunday, and I think she's off to a great start! (But, of course ... I AM a little biased. =P)

Edit:
Speaking of Elora ... this is just TOO perfect ... LOL!

Jun 18, 2009 BBBC '09, Day 4: Switcheroo

So I'm a day behind ... here it is Day #5 in the BBBC '09 and I'm just now doin' Day #4. Typical ... I'm such a slacker. =/

Yesterday's topic was ...
If there was someone you could trade places with for one day in Second Life, who would it be and why? Bonus points if you find this person and snap a picture with them!

Ummmm ... yeah. This one? Not fer me. I'm totally happy with who I am & really don't "fanboy" anybody in SL enough to want to BE them ... even for a day. I ADMIRE people for their abilities - designing, writing, etc. - but I'm not gonna try and emulate them, because then I'd have lost ... me! =D

So, instead I'm just gonna chuck that idea and present you with my latest passion ... BUILDING! I'm having a blast learning all the things you can do with the awesome Sculpt Studio and last night I finished my "homework" that I mentioned a couple o' days ago ...

LOOKIE! I made a lightpost!! Outta ONE PRIM!!! =D One of the lightposts in the picture below is made out of 12 basic prims (sphere, cylinder, etc.) and the OTHER ONE is made out of ... one. See if you can guess which one is which!!! BUT ... guess carefully! For if you guess WRONG, then my good friend "Picnic" here gets to ... um ... eat me. =/

(Wait ... THAT can't be right!! .......... crap.)

[PSSST!!! It's the one on my right ... MY RIGHT!!!]
