Sep 4, 2009 Gone Daddy, Gone ...

So like it matters with my lack of posting on a regular basis, or even posting anything slightly interesting or amusing ... I'm shutting this train wreck down for a while.

I just don't feel like doing it - or anything else for that matter - and don't see that changing anytime soon.

Yep, n0nSLensical!! is going down (minds outta the gutter, please) for the immediate future. Will it return? Will it ever be good again (assuming it once was)? Fuck if I know.

Please, no "We'll miss you, Merrick" comments - I'm not one for false platitudes. In fact, no comments at all - this pile of typeface diarrhea shall be closed.

Don't like it? Oh well ... it's my fucking blog, idn't it?

Aug 25, 2009 MUST ... HAVE ... ... ... (nsfw? OH, yeah.)

Christmas will be here before ya know it, folks ...
NOW ya know what to get ME! =D

Jul 18, 2009 FISH ON !!!

I've been sculpting again ...

Yeah, big surprise there. =/

Then again, I recently got my arse handed to me by some VERY talented sculptors ... so I guess that's what I need to inspire me ... LOL.

You see, there's a group called 'Sweet Sculpties' that's associated with the Sculpt Studio (SS) ... and the founder of the group is the creator of the SS - a really talented guy named TheBlack Box. Last Saturday, he sent out an announcement to the group that they were going to have a contest that lasted for four hours. Turns out it was to create a funny hat with the SS, in 5 prims or less. I figured "What the hell? Might as well give it a go ..." I could always use the practice, right?

Anyway, Elora and I kicked around some ideas and came up with what WE thought would be pretty cool and funny ... a Fish Hat. You know ... a hat ... that's a fish ... he's on your head. =/ (C'mon, WORK with me here people!) I worked the whole afternoon, thinking "Yeah, it looks pretty rough ... but so will everyone else's, right?"

BOY, was I wrong.

Most of the entries were submitted within the first 2 hours. =P They were AWESOME! Some were even ANIMATED! Fully baked textures on most of them, even. And I show up with a rough approximation of a fish on my head ... a fish made of plywood. LOL! Yeah, didn't even have time to texture it. Needless to say, I didn't win. Hell, I didn't even place. But the designers there were very kind ... even said they would have picked mine if it had been finished 'cuz they thought it was a really original idea. Well, thanks guys ... but even I wouldn't have picked that piscatorial plywood pile o' poopie (thanks for the pity vote, tho ... lol.) But seriously, I want to congratulate the winners ... you know who you are. =) Great work, folks - you really inspired me! =D

Thankfully, I'm not going to torture you good folks with making you view my first ... um ... attempt. However, I've been working on it this week and finally finished it today! I'd like to eventually go back and re-texture it, but this was good enough for now (especially with my sucky texturing skills ... lol). Have a look-see!

Seagull #1: "Damn! Dat's a big suckah!"
Seagull #2: "Yeaahhhh ... let's go shit on it."

ZOMG! IT'S EATING MAH BRAINNNSSSS!!! BLARGGGGGG!

Jul 5, 2009 YO! Where ya been, Merrick?

So I have a new obsession, as those of you who know me in-world may have surmised. I have become totally enamored of my Sculpt Studio and everything having to do with sculpting and sculpted prims. Sure, you can make most things in SL out of the default basic prims and they look fine ... even great, when constructed by someone with a little talent and imagination. But sculpted prims allow you so much more freedom to make things as realistic as your skills and inspiration will allow. I've been learning SO much about working with sculpties just from playing around with my Sculpt Studio, and talking with and listening to builders and sculptors in-world who have been at this a LOT longer then me! =D Thank you to everyone that I've met that have offered advice, opinions and encouragement ... I'm really surprised at the reactions that I've gotten so far about the things I'm making - surprised ... but really happy!

Wanna see what I've been up to?
(Please keep in mind ... I suck at pictures. =P)

My friend Noelyci created a Lego block out of normal prims - 9 prims total - and I remembered how much I LOVED my Legos when I was a kid. I decided to try and make one sculpty-style ... came out pretty good, I think. Maybe I'll try and make one of each style of block ... =/
Prim total: 1 each.

And then my friend Laleeta sent out a toilet as a joke to the Ch'Know group ... don't remember the prim count, but it was up there ... and again, I thought: "Hmmm ... wonder if I can make that outta a sculpty?" =/
[EDITOR'S NOTE: Seems there's a trend to my sculpting ... is it that I see things that other folks have made, and decide to try and recreate them? Have I no original thought?? No creativity?? No originality?? Hmmmm ... NAHHHH! I'm just learnin' and practicin' my chops ... LOL!]
Prim total: 2 prims (1 for bowl & tank and 1 for upper/lower seat)

This has gotta be the one I'm happiest with so far, though ... I've been going to the Sculpt Studio basic classes at the Dreams Classroom (Sundays, 12p SLT) and one of our assignments was to recreate a 5-prim table out of one sculpted prim. I got a little creative and went with a semi-Queen-Anne-style with the curvy legs. I liked it so much that I decided to make a chair to go with it. =) LOL ... my friends seem to like them - a number of them have even pictured them on their blogs and incorporated them into their home decor. =D I gotta tell ya ... I am SO HONORED. Seriously, knowing that someone likes something that I MADE enough to actually USE IT?? Wow.
Prim total: Table (1-prim), Chair (2-prims, frame and cushion)

Well, I think I'm getting a little better ... but I've got a LOOOOONG way to go. What do you think? Shows promise? Or should I just stick to being a goofball?

o-O
